Urban Mission Chicago is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing scholarships for people of color to access global experiences. We partner with advocates of color and allies who wish to engage in community-based philanthropy.

Go Global Scholarships

We raise funds to disperse to racial and ethnic minority groups to engage in global experiences. The scholarship program provides support to individuals with limited financial means to participate in an educational and immersive comprehensive experience through traveling abroad with their school, our field partner organization, or a hosted trip by Urban Mission.

Why It Matters

Racial and ethnic minority groups have consistently been erased out of the picture when it comes to cross-culture exposure. Most volunteer groups cater to curating opportunities to individuals with the financial capabilities to travel abroad and engage in cultural exchange or global service experiences. This makes marginalized communities feel like this space isn’t made for them. They feel as if they are not welcomed because they don’t see their community members represented and impacting globally. We believe education through global service experiences inspires ourcommunities to think bigger and seek opportunities that they maybe would not have ever thought of or felt unreachable due to lack of resources, experiences, or finances. Traveling, learning, and gaining experiences abroad broadens ways of thinking, ignites personal growth, and increases representation in a historically monochrome space.

Global Projects

We are dedicated to providing opportunities for our communities to engage in global projects by volunteering their time and donating financially.

"I believe it's essential to provide opportunities for young adults of color that are economically marginalized to travel abroad and immerse themselves in cross-cultural learning and engagement. Traveling, learning, and gaining global experiences broadens ways of thinking, ignites personal growth, and opens up the mind to possibilities never imagined prior." Founder, Benjamin Vazquez
